Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 small cabbage, chopped
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 can diced tomatoes (15 oz)
- 1 cup onions, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
Spices and Seasonings
- 1 tablespoon bouillon powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Beef: Place the ground beef in a large pan over medium heat. Break up the beef with a spoon and cook until browned and no longer pink.
- Sauté Onions and Garlic: Push the browned beef to one side of the pan. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the other side. Sauté until onions are softened and garlic releases a fragrant aroma.
- Add Tomatoes and Spices: Stir diced tomatoes, bouillon powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, and salt into the pan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer gently for 5 minutes to develop flavor.
- Cook the Cabbage: Add the chopped cabbage to the pan and stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients. Cover the pan with a lid and cook until the cabbage becomes tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Add a splash of broth or water if the mixture becomes too dry.
- Adjust Seasoning: Taste the dish and add more salt if needed. Serve the cabbage and ground beef hot as a main course or side dish.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- If you want more spice, increase the cayenne pepper slightly.
- Add a splash of beef broth or water while cooking cabbage to prevent sticking and help soften the cabbage.
- This dish pairs well with rice or crusty bread.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated on the stove.
