Description

This decadent Chocolate Tiramisu recipe combines rich layers of mascarpone cream, espresso-soaked ladyfingers, and luscious dark chocolate ganache for an irresistible twist on the classic Italian dessert. Perfectly balanced with hints of rum and cocoa, it’s a luxurious treat that requires no baking and is ideal for special occasions or elegant dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Ganache

  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 8 ounces Dark Chocolate, chopped

Mascarpone Cream

  • 4 large Egg Yolks
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Rum
  • 16 ounces Mascarpone Cheese
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream (for whipping)

Coffee Soak

  • 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder, sifted
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 cups Strong Brewed Coffee or Espresso, cooled

Assembly

  • 24 Soft Ladyfingers (about 2 packages)
  • Cocoa Powder, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ganache: Heat 1 cup of heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat until it just starts to boil. Pour the hot cream over 8 ounces of chopped dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Let it sit undisturbed for 5 minutes to melt the chocolate, then stir gently until smooth and glossy. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Make the Mascarpone Cream: In a mixing bowl, whisk together 4 egg yolks, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, and 2 tablespoons rum until the mixture becomes pale, thick, and fluffy. Gradually beat in 16 ounces of mascarpone cheese until smooth and creamy. In a separate chilled bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream to stiff peaks. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture to maintain the light texture.
  3. Create the Coffee Soak: In a shallow bowl, sift 1/4 cup cocoa powder and stir in 1/4 cup granulated sugar. Add 2 cups of cooled strong brewed coffee or espresso and mix until the sugar and cocoa dissolve completely, creating a smooth coffee soak.
  4. Assemble the Tiramisu: Spread a thin layer of the prepared chocolate ganache in the bottom of an 8×8-inch dish. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee soak—do not soak too long to avoid sogginess—and arrange a single layer over the ganache. Spread one-third of the mascarpone cream evenly over the ladyfingers, then drizzle with more ganache. Repeat these layering steps twice more, ending with the mascarpone cream as the top layer. Finish by dusting the entire surface generously with cocoa powder.
  5. Chill and Serve: Cover the assembled tiramisu with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow flavors to meld and the dessert to set. Serve chilled and enjoy this creamy, chocolate-infused Italian classic.

Notes

  • Use fresh eggs and high-quality mascarpone for the best taste and texture.
  • Do not over-soak the ladyfingers to prevent a soggy dessert.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum or substitute with extra coffee.
  • The dessert benefits from chilling overnight to enhance flavors.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
