Description

Classic Chocolate Covered Pretzels combine crunchy, salty pretzels with a smooth, rich coating of melted semi-sweet or white chocolate. This easy-to-make treat is perfect for snacking, gifting, or party favors, and can be customized with optional sprinkles for added fun and texture.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Coating

  • 8 ounces (226g) semi-sweet or white chocolate (two 4-ounce bars), finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil or coconut oil

Pretzels

  • 4 cups pretzels

Optional Toppings

  • Sprinkles, for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking sheet: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, setting it aside for easy placing and cooling of the chocolate-covered pretzels.
  2. Melt the chocolate: Using a double boiler or microwave, melt the chocolate with the vegetable or coconut oil. For microwaving, place chocolate and oil in a medium heat-proof bowl (preferably a glass 2-cup measuring cup for ease of dipping). Heat in 20-second increments, stirring thoroughly after each until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.
  3. Dip the pretzels: Dip each pretzel into the melted chocolate, using a fork to lift it out and gently tapping on the bowl’s edge to let excess chocolate drip back. Use a toothpick to slide the coated pretzel off the fork onto the prepared baking sheet. Add sprinkles immediately if desired. Reheat leftover chocolate as needed to drizzle over the coated pretzels for decorative effect.
  4. Set the chocolate: Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes to allow the chocolate to fully set. Once set, store the pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or refrigerated for up to two weeks.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for better flavor and smoother coating.
  • If using white chocolate, be careful not to overheat as it can seize easily.
  • Vegetable or coconut oil helps to make the melted chocolate smoother and easier to dip.
  • To speed up setting, you can place the pretzels in the freezer for 10–15 minutes instead of refrigerating.
  • Chocolate-covered pretzels can be customized with various toppings like crushed nuts, colored sugar, or sea salt instead of or along with sprinkles.
