Description

A quick and flavorful Honey Garlic Chicken Breast recipe featuring tender pan-fried chicken breasts coated in a sticky, sweet, and savory honey garlic sauce. Ideal for a weeknight dinner, this dish combines simple ingredients with a delicious glaze made from honey, soy sauce, and garlic, cooked to perfection in a skillet.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 500g / 1 lb chicken breast, boneless and skinless (2 pieces)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup flour

Sauce and Cooking

  • 3 1/2 tbsp (50g) unsalted butter, divided (or 2 1/2 tbsp olive oil)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or white or other clear vinegar)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce, light or all purpose
  • 1/3 cup honey (or maple syrup)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Cut the chicken breasts in half horizontally to create 4 thin steaks. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Coat with Flour: Place the flour in a shallow dish. Dredge each chicken piece in the flour ensuring an even coating. Shake off any excess flour.
  3. Heat the Skillet and Cook Chicken: In a large skillet over high heat, melt most of the butter leaving about 1 teaspoon aside. Once hot, add the chicken pieces. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on one side until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for 1 minute.
  4. Adjust Heat and Add Garlic: Reduce heat to medium-high. Push the chicken to one side of the skillet to make room. Add the minced garlic and reserved butter to the empty side. Stir garlic briefly once butter melts to release its aroma without burning.
  5. Add Sauce Ingredients: Pour in apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and honey into the skillet. Stir or gently shake the pan to combine all ingredients and coat the chicken evenly. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
  6. Simmer Sauce and Coat Chicken: Let the sauce simmer for about 1 minute until it slightly thickens. Turn the chicken pieces in the sauce to coat completely. If the sauce thickens too much, add a splash of water and stir to loosen it.
  7. Finish and Serve: Remove the skillet from heat immediately to prevent burning. Plate the chicken and spoon the remaining sauce over the top. Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free option, substitute butter with olive oil.
  • Adjust honey sweetness according to taste or replace with maple syrup as desired.
  • Ensure not to burn the garlic by stirring it quickly and keeping the heat moderate after adding.
  • If chicken pieces are too thick, flattening them improves cooking speed and evenness.
  • Add a splash of water if the sauce reduces too much during simmering.
