Description
This classic Peach Cobbler recipe combines juicy, sweet peaches with a tender, buttery cake-like topping. Perfectly baked to golden perfection, it’s a comforting dessert ideal for any occasion. Fresh peaches macerated with sugar create a luscious filling topped with a soft, cinnamon-sprinkled batter that bakes into a warm, satisfying cobbler.
Ingredients
Scale
Peach Filling
- 5 peaches, sliced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar (150 g)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Batter
- 6 Tablespoons butter (85 g)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (120 g)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (200 g)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk (180 ml)
Topping
- Ground cinnamon, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Prepare the peaches: Add the sliced peaches, sugar, and salt to a saucepan and stir to combine. If using fresh peaches, this helps macerate them to release their juices. (If using canned peaches, skip steps 1 & 2.)
- Cook the peach mixture: Heat the saucepan over medium heat for a few minutes, just until the sugar dissolves and juice is released from the peaches. Remove from heat and set aside, allowing the peach syrup to develop flavor.
- Preheat and melt butter: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the butter and place it in a 9×13 inch baking dish. Put the dish in the oven while it preheats so the butter melts evenly. Remove the pan once the butter is fully melted.
- Make the batter: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Pour in the milk and stir gently just until combined to avoid overmixing. Pour this batter over the melted butter in the baking dish, smoothing it into an even layer.
- Add peaches and cinnamon: Spoon the peach mixture, including the juices, evenly over the batter. Generously sprinkle ground cinnamon over the top to add warmth and depth of flavor.
- Bake the cobbler: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 38 to 40 minutes until the top is golden and the batter is cooked through. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of ice cream for extra indulgence.
Notes
- Use fresh, ripe peaches for best flavor; if using canned peaches, skip the initial stovetop cooking steps.
- Butter must be fully melted in the pan before adding the batter to create the traditional cobbler crust effect.
- Do not overmix batter to keep the topping light and tender.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a classic experience.
- Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
