Description

This Philly Cheese Steak Crescent recipe is a delicious and easy-to-make twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich, wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough and baked to golden perfection. A satisfying dish featuring tender ribeye steak, sautéed onions and bell peppers, melty provolone cheese, and a savory garlic and Worcestershire seasoning, perfect for gatherings or a flavorful weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 15 ml olive oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 225 g thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin steak
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2.5 ml garlic powder
  • 2.5 ml Worcestershire sauce

Dough and Cheese

  • 1 tube (225 g) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking sheet: Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Sauté vegetables and cook steak: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onion and green bell pepper, sautéing until they are softened and fragrant. Add the sliced ribeye steak to the skillet and season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook the steak until browned and fully cooked through, stirring occasionally to combine flavors.
  3. Assemble the crescent ring: Unroll the crescent roll dough and arrange the triangles in a circle on the prepared baking sheet with the points facing outward, forming a ring shape. Layer the provolone cheese slices over the dough base, then evenly spread the cooked steak and vegetable mixture on top. Carefully fold the points of the dough over the filling and tuck them underneath the ring to seal the crescent roll.
  4. Egg wash and baking: Brush the entire assembled ring with the beaten egg to give the crust a beautiful golden color once baked. If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for added texture and flavor. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until the crescent roll crust is golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Cool and serve: Remove the Philly Cheese Steak Crescent from the oven and allow it to cool slightly on a wire rack to set. Slice the ring into portions and serve warm for a delicious meal or appetizer.

Notes

  • You can substitute ribeye or sirloin with any thinly sliced steak or even chicken for variation.
  • Use sharp provolone or even mozzarella cheese for a different cheese flavor.
  • Adding sautéed mushrooms can enhance the flavor and texture.
  • The crescent dough can be made from scratch or store-bought refrigerated dough for convenience.
  • For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes or hot sauce to the steak mixture.
