Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a warm, cheesy, and flavorful appetizer inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Loaded with tender roast beef, sautéed onions and green peppers, and a blend of cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, and provolone cheeses, it’s perfect for gatherings and game days. Baked until hot and bubbly, this dip pairs wonderfully with baguette slices, chips, or fresh veggies.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 lb roast beef deli meat, sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces

Vegetables

  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, chopped

Dairy & Cheese

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (1 brick, 250 grams), room temperature
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 8 slices provolone cheese, chopped into ¼ inch pieces or 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese

Seasonings & Garnish

  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper, or to taste
  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped for garnish
  • Green onion, sliced for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375℉ (190℃). Grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet with cooking spray and set aside to prevent sticking.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until lightly caramelized. Then add the chopped green bell pepper and continue cooking for 2-3 minutes until they become tender, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  3. Combine Cheeses and Cream: In a medium-sized bowl, add the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella cheese, and chopped provolone cheese. Stir these ingredients together until they are evenly combined and smooth.
  4. Add Meat and Vegetables: To the bowl, add the chopped roast beef deli meat, salt, black pepper, and the cooked onions and green peppers. Stir everything until well blended. Optionally, reserve 1 tablespoon of the chopped roast beef and cooked vegetables for garnish.
  5. Assemble Dip: Spread the dip mixture evenly into the prepared oven-safe dish or skillet. If you set some reserved meat and vegetables aside, distribute them evenly on top of the dip as a garnish for extra texture and presentation.
  6. Bake the Dip: Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until the dip is hot and bubbly. Remove the foil and continue baking uncovered for another 2-3 minutes to slightly brown the top.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven, garnish with freshly chopped parsley and sliced green onions. Serve immediately with accompaniments such as sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables for dipping. Enjoy your warm, cheesy Philly Cheesesteak Dip!

Notes

  • Use deli style roast beef for the best texture; you can finely chop or shred it to your preference.
  • Allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature for easier mixing.
  • You can substitute provolone cheese with Swiss or additional mozzarella if preferred.
  • For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños or a pinch of red pepper flakes in the sauté step.
  • This dip can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving for convenience.
