Description

A simple and delicious recipe for roasted turnips that are caramelized, tender, and infused with the flavors of thyme, rosemary, and garlic. Perfect as a healthy side dish to complement any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Turnips

  • 2 lb turnips, peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks

Seasoning

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp ground rosemary
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (232 degrees C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature for roasting the turnips evenly.
  2. Toss turnips with seasoning: In a large bowl, combine the peeled and chopped turnips with olive oil, dried thyme, ground rosemary, garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper. Toss well so all the pieces are evenly coated with the seasoning.
  3. Arrange on baking sheet: Spread the seasoned turnips in a single layer on a baking sheet, ensuring each piece is touching the pan so they roast properly and get a nice caramelized crust.
  4. Roast the turnips: Place the baking sheet in the oven and roast for approximately 30 minutes. Toss the turnips halfway through cooking to promote even browning. The turnips are done when they are fork tender and caramelized on the edges.

Notes

  • Cooking time may vary depending on the size of turnip pieces; smaller pieces will cook faster, larger pieces may take longer.
  • Ensure turnips are cut into similar sizes for even roasting.
  • Use a heavy-duty baking sheet for best caramelization results.
  • Can be served as a side dish with roasted meats or added to grain bowls.
