Ingredients
Scale
Eggs
- 4 eggs (soft-boiled)
- 2 tsp salt (for flavor and peeling)
- 2 tbsp vinegar (for easier peeling)
Marinade
- 6 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 pieces Korean green pepper (chopped)
- 1 piece red chili (optional, chopped)
- 3 pieces green onion (optional, chopped)
- 1 cup soy sauce (base for the marinade)
- ½ cup honey (balances sweetness)
- 1 tbsp sesame oil (optional, adds richness)
- ½ cup water (to dilute the marinade)
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare Eggs: In a pot, cover the eggs with water, adding salt and vinegar to the water. Bring it to a gentle simmer, then carefully cook the eggs for 6 minutes to achieve a soft-boiled texture.
- Cool Eggs: Immediately transfer the eggs into a bowl of ice water and let them sit for at least 10 minutes to stop the cooking process and make peeling easier.
- Make Marinade: In a container, mix together the minced garlic, chopped Korean green peppers, optional chopped red chili and green onions, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, and water to create a balanced and flavorful marinade.
- Marinate Eggs: Gently peel the cooled eggs and place them into the marinade, ensuring they are fully submerged and evenly coated with the mixture.
- Rest Eggs: Refrigerate the eggs in the marinade for at least 2 hours, but preferably overnight, allowing the flavors to deeply infuse into the eggs.
- Serve: Serve the marinated eggs chilled or at room temperature, garnished with sesame seeds and alongside hot steamed rice or as a savory snack.
Notes
- Adding vinegar and salt to the boiling water helps with easier peeling of the eggs.
- The red chili and green onions are optional and can be adjusted for desired heat and flavor.
- Marinating overnight yields the best flavor penetration.
- These eggs can be stored in the refrigerator in their marinade for up to 3 days.
- For a firmer yolk, increase boiling time by 1-2 minutes.
