Ingredients
Scale
Cinnamon Rolls
- 2 cans Pillsbury Grands! Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls
- 1 cup Heavy cream
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) Butter
- 3/4 cup Brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
Frosting
- 4 ounces Cream cheese
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- Packaged cinnamon roll icing (from the cinnamon rolls package)
- Optional: small amount of heavy cream for consistency
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare baking dish: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Make cinnamon sugar mixture: Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon until fully combined to create a rich cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Add heavy cream to dish: Pour 1 cup of heavy cream into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly. Reserve a small amount of cream to drizzle over the rolls later.
- Arrange cinnamon rolls: Open the canned cinnamon rolls and separate them. Place each roll in the baking dish, leaving a little space between each to allow room for expanding as they bake. If they touch, that’s fine since they’ll rise significantly. Pour any reserved heavy cream evenly over the tops of the rolls.
- Distribute cinnamon sugar: Spoon and drizzle the cinnamon sugar and butter mixture evenly over each cinnamon roll to coat them well.
- Bake covered: Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 35 minutes. This traps steam and allows the rolls to cook thoroughly and absorb moisture.
- Uncover and finish baking: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and most of the cream has absorbed to create a gooey caramel bottom.
- Cool the rolls: Remove the cinnamon rolls from the oven and let them cool in the dish for 10 minutes. This resting time helps the rolls set and cool slightly for better frosting adherence.
- Prepare frosting: In a bowl, combine the packaged cinnamon roll icing with 4 ounces of cream cheese and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly until smooth and creamy. Add a small amount of heavy cream if needed to reach a spreadable consistency.
- Frost and serve: Spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the warm cinnamon rolls. Serve immediately for warm, gooey cinnamon rolls with rich icing.
Notes
- Using canned cinnamon rolls saves time but you can use homemade dough if preferred.
- Be careful not to overpack the rolls in the baking dish to allow proper expansion.
- Covering with foil helps the rolls stay moist—removing it finishes the browning process.
- The heavy cream soak adds extra moisture and richness to the rolls.
- Allowing rolls to cool slightly before frosting prevents the icing from melting off.
