Description

Tropical Burgers combine juicy spiced beef patties with fresh pineapple and a tangy yogurt sauce, creating a delicious fusion of savory and sweet flavors. Perfect for a casual meal, these burgers feature vibrant ingredients like red onion, red pepper, and fresh coriander, complemented by a mild Balti Masala spice blend. Cooked on the stovetop and served with melted cheddar cheese, the tropical touch comes from charred pineapple slices and a zesty lime-infused yogurt sauce, all assembled on toasted burger buns with crisp lettuce and tomato.

Ingredients

Scale

Burger Mixture

  • 1 red onion, finely diced
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 tsp Balti Masala Paste
  • 2 large handfuls frozen peas
  • 1 red pepper, finely diced
  • 20 g fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 egg
  • 300 g lean minced beef
  • 1 cup oats, ground into oat flour

To Cook

  • Rapeseed oil, for cooking
  • 40 g Cheddar cheese
  • 1 pineapple, cored and sliced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin

Yogurt Sauce

  • 125 ml natural yogurt
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • 1 tablespoon tomato purée
  • 1 tsp Balti Masala Paste

To Serve

  • Burger buns
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices

Instructions

  1. Mix Burger Ingredients: Add all of the burger mixture ingredients – red onion, crushed garlic, Balti Masala Paste, frozen peas, diced red pepper, coriander, lime juice, egg, minced beef, and oat flour – into a large bowl. Mix thoroughly until fully combined to create a uniform burger mixture.
  2. Shape Burgers: Divide the mixture into 12 mini burgers or 6 large burgers depending on your preference, shaping each patty evenly for consistent cooking.
  3. Heat Oil: Drizzle rapeseed oil into a frying pan and heat it over medium heat, preparing to cook the burgers.
  4. Cook Burgers: Fry the burgers in the hot pan, cooking each side until golden brown and ensuring the meat is cooked through completely for safety and flavor.
  5. Melt Cheese: Grate cheddar cheese over the top of the burgers while they remain in the pan. Allow the cheese to melt slightly from the heat before removing the burgers.
  6. Keep Warm: Remove the burgers from the pan and transfer them to a warm oven to keep them hot and ready until serving.
  7. Fry Pineapple: Using the residual oil in the pan, fry pineapple slices until both sides start to char, adding a smoky sweetness to the fruit.
  8. Prepare Sauce: In a bowl, combine natural yogurt, lime juice, tomato purée, and Balti Masala Paste. Stir well until smooth and flavorful.
  9. Assemble Burgers: Place cooked burgers on warm buns, top each with charred pineapple, a dollop of the prepared yogurt sauce, lettuce, and a slice of tomato for a fresh finish.
  10. For Babies: Skip the bun and serve the burger patty with a little sauce on top to make it suitable for younger children.

Notes

  • Use lean minced beef to reduce fat content in the burgers.
  • Ground oats serve as a gluten-free binder instead of traditional breadcrumbs.
  • Adjust the quantity of Balti Masala Paste to control the spice level according to preference.
  • Charred pineapple adds a smoky sweetness that enhances the tropical flavor profile.
  • Keep cooked burgers warm in the oven at low heat to prevent drying out before serving.
  • For a dairy-free version, omit cheddar and substitute yogurt with a plant-based alternative.
  • These burgers pair well with sweet potato fries or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
