Ingredients
Scale
For the Dough:
- 1 cup water
- 2 tbsp coconut sugar
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ tsp sea salt
For Coating:
- ½ cup organic cane sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Optional for Dipping:
- Dairy-free chocolate sauce or vegan caramel sauce
Instructions
- Make the Dough: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, coconut sugar, and coconut oil. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves and the mixture just begins to simmer. Remove from heat, stir in the vanilla extract, then add the flour and salt all at once. Use a wooden spoon to stir vigorously until the dough forms a smooth ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Pipe the Churros: Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe the dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet in long strips or any desired shape. If air frying, pipe directly into the air fryer basket lined with parchment paper.
- Bake or Air Fry: For baking, place the churros in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 18–20 minutes until golden brown. For air frying, cook at 375°F for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through if needed, until the churros are puffed and lightly golden.
- Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: While still warm, toss the churros in a mixture of organic cane sugar and cinnamon, ensuring they are evenly coated. The warmth helps the sugar stick perfectly to the churros.
- Serve with Dipping Sauce: Enjoy the vegan churros warm, dipped in melted dairy-free chocolate sauce or your favorite vegan-friendly caramel sauce for an extra indulgent treat.
Notes
- You can choose to bake or air fry the churros depending on your preference for texture and convenience.
- Ensure the dough is thick enough to hold shape when piped; adjust flour slightly if needed.
- Serving warm helps the cinnamon sugar coating adhere better and enhances flavor.
- Optional dipping sauces add richness; try different vegan-friendly sauces for variety.
- Store leftover churros in an airtight container and reheat in the oven or air fryer to retain crispiness.
